About These Terms
These Terms of Service are a binding agreement between you and Bookshaper LLC, a Texas limited liability company. Throughout this document, “Bookshaper”, “we”, “us”, and “our” refer to that entity. By creating an account or using the service, you agree to these Terms.
User Rights and Responsibilities
By creating a Bookshaper account, you agree to use the service in accordance with these Terms. You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account credentials and for all activity that occurs under your account.
Acceptable Use
Bookshaper is intended for the analysis and refinement of original creative manuscripts. You agree not to use the service for any unlawful purpose, to attempt to reverse-engineer the system, or to interfere with the operation of the service.
Subscription Terms
Bookshaper offers two subscription tiers: Bookshaper and Bookshaper Pro. Each is available on a monthly or annual billing cycle. Both tiers include an optional 7-day free trial with full access to all features. After the trial ends, a paid subscription is required to continue using the writing environment, export features, and (for Pro) AI analysis and dashboards.
Users who do not subscribe after the trial or whose subscription has expired may still log in and view existing projects but cannot run AI analysis, create new projects, or export manuscripts.
Billing and Cancellation
Subscriptions are billed monthly or annually on a recurring basis through Stripe. You may cancel your subscription at any time from your account settings or through the Stripe Customer Portal. Upon cancellation, your access continues until the end of the current billing cycle and is not renewed.
If a payment fails, Bookshaper will retry the charge on Day 1, Day 2, and Day 3. If all retries fail, your subscription will enter an expired state.
Refunds
30-day money-back guarantee. If you are not satisfied with Bookshaper, contact support within 30 days of your first paid charge on a new subscription and we will refund that charge in full and cancel the subscription. The 30-day window applies to your first paid charge only — subsequent monthly or annual renewals are not automatically refundable under this guarantee.
Outside the 30-day window, refunds are handled by support on a case-by-case basis. We do not issue automatic prorated refunds for partial billing periods.
Chargebacks initiated against Bookshaper without first contacting support may result in immediate termination of your account. We’d much rather refund you directly — reach out before disputing a charge with your bank.
Intellectual Property
You retain full ownership of and all rights to your manuscripts and creative content. Bookshaper does not claim any intellectual property rights over your work.
The Bookshaper service, including its software, algorithms, and user interface, is the intellectual property of Bookshaper and is protected by applicable laws.
AI Disclosure
Bookshaper uses AI for analysis and select generation features (such as back-cover blurbs and cover concepts). We do not authorize AI providers to train on your manuscripts, and we configure available no-retention controls on every request; because analysis runs on third-party AI platforms, this protection relies on each provider honoring its default API terms. AI analysis is deterministic and audit-friendly. You retain full creative control at all times.
AI Providers and How Your Requests Are Routed
Bookshaper does not build or host its own AI models. AI features are powered by third-party providers, and your manuscript text is sent to one of those providers to produce a result. Bookshaper offers two ways to use AI, and the contractual relationship with the provider differs between them:
Platform Mode. Bookshaper routes your request through its own accounts with AI providers — currently Anthropic and OpenAI. In this mode, Bookshaper is the provider’s customer, and the provider’s standard API terms govern how that traffic is handled. Those terms exclude API inputs and outputs from model training by default; where a provider exposes a per-request no-retention control (for example, OpenAI’s storage opt-out), Bookshaper sets it. The provider’s content rules and service warranties for that API traffic apply to Bookshaper and, through Bookshaper, to your use of the feature. Because Bookshaper controls these provider accounts, the no-training commitment above rests on the providers’ own published API terms; it is not a separate warranty Bookshaper can give on the providers’ behalf.
Bring-Your-Own-Key (BYOK) Mode. If you supply your own provider API key, your requests go directly from your device to the provider you selected — which may include Anthropic, OpenAI, Google, Groq, Mistral, OpenRouter, or Together. In BYOK mode you are the contracting party with that provider: their terms, pricing, data-handling policies, and usage limits govern your use, and you are responsible for reviewing and complying with them. Bookshaper’s role narrows to that of a client application that formats and transmits your request; it is not a party to your agreement with the provider and does not control how that provider handles your data.
Limitation of Liability
Bookshaper is provided on an “as is” basis. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Bookshaper shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits or revenues, whether incurred directly or indirectly.
Dispute Resolution
Any disputes arising from these Terms shall be resolved through good-faith negotiation. If a resolution cannot be reached, disputes shall be subject to binding arbitration in accordance with applicable rules.
